CLINTON — On Monday, the city council passed a $1,966,274 levy for the new fiscal year. City treasurer Clint Lichtenwalter gave the report during a public hearing scheduled before the council meeting.
Lichtenwalter said it reflected a 0.22 percent increase in the overall levy.
“But, it’s actually a 1.26 percent decrease in the tax rate,” he said.
Lichtenwalter said it was the fifth consecutive year the city has realized a decrease in the tax rate.
“How many tax units can say their taxes are going down?”
Lichtenwalter said among the good points in the proposed levy were the pension funds.
The city joined the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) in 2010.
