Local vets return from Honor Flight, coordinator recognized

CLINTON — On August 20 and 21 another Land of Lincoln Honor Flight was completed honoring our country’s veterans.

From this area were long-time Clinton mail carrier Marvin Hubbell, of Maroa, and Dale Rogers, of Heyworth.  This was to be the latest return of any local flights as the honorees arrived in Clinton at approximately 2 a.m.   There were, however, many from the community and surrounding area who were there to show their support for these veterans.

Although the gatherings are mainly for the veterans who may not have had a proper welcome home, and the flights are for them to have a chance to visit the veterans memorials in Washington D.C., this night (morning) had another special recognition.  The three Clinton veterans groups who form the area Honor Guard had a special presentation for Jeff Morlock, the local Honor Flight Coordinator.

Morlock is a Clinton resident who felt the need in this area to support local veterans and became involved in getting area veterans signed up for the flights in 2014 and has continued this effort for the past five years.  He often has committed his own time and money to see the arrangements were completed and has also volunteered as a guardian for several veterans.

Since beginning in 2014, Morlock has been involved in approximately 60 veterans’ honor flights.
