CLINTON — The city is getting the word out to make sure residents know and understand the local snow route ordinance.
“The snow route ordinance is nothing new,” Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers said during Monday’s city council meeting. “It was passed in 1979.”
Lowers said the city had not vigorously enforced the code for many years.
“But, we have addressed that recently during the last couple of storms,” he said.
Lowers said the goal was not only to make sure residents were aware of the ordinance but to seek voluntary compliance. He said officers had been out knocking on doors to let people know.
“But, we have not towed cars, to date,” Lowers said.
Lowers hopes the standard response from residents will be to move their cars off the streets before a 2-inch or greater forecast snowfall.
“I’ve been in contact with Steve Lobb, and we’ve been discussing that,” he said.
