CLINTON — A Clinton Police Department officer recently was promoted to sergeant and took his oath Monday at the city council meeting.
Officer Tom Anderson was promoted to sergeant, and city clerk Cheryl Van Valey administered his oath during Monday’s meeting.
“It’s my pleasure to announce the promotion of officer Tom Anderson to the rank of sergeant,” said chief of police Ben Lowers.
Anderson joined the Clinton department in February 2018. He has 21 years of law enforcement experience and is a U.S. Army veteran. Anderson graduated from the Northwestern School of Police Staff and Command, operated by Northwestern University.
Anderson also has six years of supervisory experience from his time with the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office.
• Commissioner Kenny Buchanan reported the city still was picking up leaves, as long as residents bagged them before putting them out. City workers also will pick up used Christmas trees if residents place them at the curbs.
• The council approved $5,650 for Sterling to resurface steps in the fire department building.
