CLINTON — After disappointing losses to the Tuscola Lady Warriors, the hometown Lady Maroons returned to their home court to meet the Mt. Pulaski Lady Hilltoppers.
The Lady Hilltoppers were looking to swoop down from the western mounds of central Illinois and keep the home team reeling. This was not to be as a day or two can make quite a difference.
The junior varsity (JV) game began with a 10-4 run by the Lady Maroons, who didn't look back. The home team took that 6-point lead into the locker room at halftime and then built on it through the second half to take a 50-31 win from the opposition. The Lady Maroons JV were led by Ashley Armstrong and Heidi Humble with 11 points each.
Next on the agenda was the varsity match-up, and again the home team was laying in wait for the opposition.
The first quarter saw the Lady Maroons take an 11-4 lead, which became a 27-14 lead at halftime.
The Lady Hilltoppers made a run late in the second half but were too far behind to catch up, with the final score being Clinton 47, Mt. Pulaski 32.
The Lady Maroons were led by Mallory Cyrulik with 24 points and Kaitlyn Rauch with 11 points.
In an ensuing away game, the Lady Maroons not only won another decisive battle over the Central A&M Lady Raiders (61-40), but had one of their own gain a spot in the record books. Junior Mallory Cyrulik scored her 1,000 career point with the Lady Maroons.
