Lobby facelift planned for Clinton Y

CLINTON — Clinton Community YMCA will undergo some remodeling early in the new year, but the Y has a plan so members won’t be inconvenienced by the work.

The Y’s front desk will move directly across from its current location.  An office that is currently behind the desk will be opened up by removing a wall.  That space will become a lounge area.

The lounge that is currently between the Y’s entrance and the gymnasium will be turned into a teen area.

“It will be a teen program center with a ping pong table, a table and some chairs where they can do homework, a TV with some video game capabilities,” said Clinton Y executive director Rennie Cluver.  “We’re excited to be able to start that in January.”

Offices, too, will get new flooring and paint.

“The big part will be knocking out the front desk area,” Cluver said.

The goal is for work to begin the first or second full week in January.

“We do have to get some things ready to move because the front desk obviously can’t be where it is now,” Cluver said.

Temporary internet access will have to be set up for Y computers.  During the remodeling work, members will be able to use the south entrance of the Y, where a temporary main desk area will be set up.

Cluver said they plan to have the temporary desk set up and ready to go in December, before remodeling begins.

He said funds were the project already had been budgeted.
