School board approves increase in sub teacher pay

CLINTON — With the start of the 2021-22 school year, substitute teachers in the Clinton school district will earn $110 per day thanks to approval from the Clinton school board Tuesday night.
Superintendent Curt Nettles also presented an update on summer school possibilities.
Nettles said he wants to opportunity for K-5 grade students who need extra help to "start getting caught up on reading and math skills to bridge the gap that potentially has happened for them since last March."
However, Nettles said the district is working on a plan to encompass the entire district with K-5 focusing on reading the math; 6-8 focusing on completing courses for those in danger of retention as well as some skill building; 9-12 focusing on credit recovery for those who have fallen behind on their credits.
Very tentatively, Nettles said, the district is considering running a few weeks in June, July and early August. He added the classes would not meet every day or all day.
"We would try to make sure kids can get the hlep they need and still enjoy the summer as well."
In other action, the board:
Approved the 2021-22 school calendar.
Approved membership in IESA and IHSA for the 2021-22 school year.
Approved the employment of Kristen Rhoades, CJHS aide.
