CLINTON — Dewitt Savings Bank and Baum-Chevrolet recently donated a new trailer to Cub Scout Pack 142.
The total cost of a new trailer would have been nearly $2,500 had the bank and dealership not stepped forward to help the scouts.
The trailer is used on the Pack’s camping trips and other events when they need to move material from place to place. It replaces a trailer that was originally purchased back in the early 1990s for Boy Scout Troop 142, before being donated by the Boy Scouts to the Cub Scouts upon their getting a new trailer.
The old trailer was donated to the Troop by friends and family of Roy Stephenson after his passing in either early 1990s. Stephenson served as the assistant Scoutmaster for many years in Clinton and was beloved by many Boy Scouts.
Last year, the Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts visited his gravesite at the cemetery in Clinton right after the Memorial Day celebration as a commemoration.
The old trailer will actually continue its life after upgrades are completed.
Pack 142’s committee chose to donate the old trailer to Carlock Pack 3944 — where Roy’s son Andrew Stephenson is the assistant Cubmaster and Tiger Den leader for his son Marcus.
