CLINTON — The county board, on Mar. 21, approved a proposal from Sullivan Marina & Campground to purchase Clinton Lake Marina.

Conditions set for the sale by the county include that the property will continue to be open for public access, including a public marina, boat ramp and parking area.

The county will not abate any taxes as part of the sale.  If the buyer offers for sale any portion of the marina within five years of the sale, the county claims the right of first refusal.

The buyer also will be required to honor any contract between the county and Clinton Lake Sailing Association in force at the time of the sale.

Board chairman Dan Matthews said the county received seven bids for the property that ranged from $1 million to $2.5 million.

“Some bids did not meet the requirements set forth in the RFP (Request for Proposal),” Matthews said.

Considerations for awarding the bid included financial ability to operate and develop the marina, articles of incorporation and officers, experience owning, operating or managing a similar business, and development plans.

Others included commitment to existing slip renter leases, if signed before the completion of purchase, and commitment to honor the county’s agreement with the sailing association through Dec. 31, 2024.  Requirements also included a commitment to public access to the marina, boat ramp and parking area for as long as the marina is open for recreational boating.
