CLINTON — Clinton Junior High School main gymnasium and Maroons wrestlers hosted the Mahomet/Seymour Bulldogs and the Mt. Zion Braves in another triangular meet.
The first round of matches set the Braves and Bulldogs against each other. And as the song goes “Who let the dogs out,” the Bulldogs were fired up and ready to wrestle. Although the wins and losses seemed close, the points told a different story. The Bulldogs outscored the Braves 72-29.
The next round of matches pitted the Bulldogs against the hometown Maroons. This was a tighter round but unfortunately with the same outcome.
The Bulldogs again were on top 49-36, handing the Maroons their first loss on the mats this year.
There was still the final round, and it was a heart shaker. The Braves and the Maroons fought in an almost dead heat until the final matches, the home team pulling out the points win 47-42. Mahomet/Seymour took the honors winning two matches, Clinton was second with a 1-1 record and that placed Mt. Zion on the bottom of the hill in this meet at two losses.
For the Maroons, they are now 11-1 on the season and looking forward to having an outstanding rest of the season.
