CLINTON — The 16U travel team for the Clinton area, The Central Illinois Revolution, returned to the friendly confines of their home field this past week after an extensive travel itinerary. The Revolution traveled to Wisconsin for a tournament winning two of three games there, then to Roanoke-Benson, Illinois for a win.
Next the Revolution traveled to Chatham, Illinois for a tournament where they went 3-2, losing twice to the Illinois Nationals.
Finally the team stopped off at home to host the Decatur Jokers, who will be hosting the Midwest Slugfest 2018 in and around Decatur (sometimes using Evans Field in Clinton) in mid July. This was not as big a challenge as the Jokers have been in the past.
In game one of the twi-night double header, the Revolution took a 7-0 lead into the third inning before Decatur scored two runs on a couple of double and several singles. The Revolution then answered with 3 runs in the third, one in the 4th and a final run in the sixth inning.
Thye were able to tack on 2 runs in the sixth to make the final score Revolution 12, Jokers 4.
The second game did not last long, since it was called in the third inning due to lightening in the area, but the Jokers probably were relieved because they were down 16-0 by that point of the game. The Revolution took another win to up their record to 10 wins and 5 losses.
The Revolution head to Bourbonnais for a tournament before returning home to face Mt. Pulaski in a non-conference match-up. one highlight of the Revolution onslaught was a 2-run homer in the second game by Braden Cross.
