CLINTON — The C.H. Moore Homestead DeWitt County Museum will offer a special presentation starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 15, on the museum’s front lawn.

Museum Director, Joey Long, will share the stories and feature artifacts connected to those who once called the Moore mansion “home” throughout the years, focusing on the Bishops who originally owned the house, Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Moore, Vespasian Warner, and the fascinating story of how a Confederate soldier eventually came to be caretaker of the mansion.  This is an admission-free event; open to all.

Guests are asked to bring a blanket or lawn chairs and be seated in family or friend units; each unit spaced at least 10 feet apart on the front lawn. 

In accordance with safety guidelines and restrictions, attendance will be limited to no more than 50 people. First come; first seated.  In the case of rain, the event will be rescheduled.

“During these past few months, the museum has not been conducting tours and museum events and fundraisers were cancelled or modified,” Long said.  “Offering this event allows the museum to fulfill our mission statement – ‘to provide educational opportunities and to promote and preserve Dewitt County’s history and heritage’ – in a safe way, provides an opportunity for the community to learn more about the history of the Homestead in an entertaining way, and allows us stay connected to our community which has been very supportive of the museum during this challenging time.”
