Join us to continue improving Weldon Springs

Dear Community,

This has been a hard year with closures that altered jobs and lives.  Weldon Springs opened in June and has remained an outdoor haven throughout the shut-down.  The schoolhouse and town hall were opened in the summer, staffed by Foundation members.

In these COVID times, no state staff was hired.  Late fall saw the schoolhouse, outhouses, shed and town hall sporting new roofs.  These roofing projects were very expensive because they were done as historical buildings requiring wooden shingles and enhanced underlayment.  The new roofs were a state project.

The Boy Scouts have worked on improvements and were joined by many volunteers.  Nothing has been easy during these times, but these projects have broken all records for being almost impossible to complete.  We owe an incredible amount of gratitude to the Boy Scouts Troop 1142, their leaders, and those who have had a hand in getting this project off the ground and headed toward completion.

Kim and Bob Pakidis refused to give up and spent countless hours pushing to finalize the project in a year when there were many roadblocks.  We also must thank donors, such as Dr. John Veirs, Dan Caulkins and Dave Bowman, who raised and contributed their own funds for this enormous expense, as well as many in the community who have made donations and supported the project through various Scouts fundraisers.

The foundation has funds to continue improvements to Weldon Springs.  We need input and ideas.  We also need volunteer help keeping the buildings open to be used by the children of Clinton.

Please give some thought, come to the meetings and tell us where you would like to see money spent.  We are sure that this season will be more productive than last.  Our planning meeting will be held at the schoolhouse at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 7.  Please join us, and share your ideas.
