VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. — Thomas Kelso Schettler, 77, of Virginia Beach, Va., formerly of Wapella, passed away at 11:33 a.m. on July 6, 2026, at Sentara Hospital, Virginia Beach.
Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at Calvert Funeral Home, Clinton, with the Rev. Paul Stroup officiating. Burial will follow at Long Point Cemetery, Wapella. Visitation will be hed from 10-11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
Thomas was born on January 12, 1949, in Wapella, the son of Charles L. and Margaret A. (Kelso) Schettler. He married Judy Ann Losh. She passed away on June 16, 2002.
Survivors include his brother, Charles Lee Schlettler, Breckenridge, Colo.; niece, Tiffani (Lariven) Franada, Dunlap, Ill.; nephews: Randall C. Stroup, Peoria, Ill. and Timothy Charles (Dana) Miller, Clyde Texas; and special friend, Tawnya Troxel, Wapella.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nancy Evans.
Thomas was a graduate of Wapella High School and the University of Illinois in 1971 with a degree in Agriculture Communications. He was an accomplished musician and athlete. Thomas spent his career in the management of hotels and restaurants. Most of all, he was a good friend to those who knew him.
