CLINTON — Basketball has returned, at least in the junior high world.
On the evening of October 3, the Lady Maroons of Clinton Junior High took to the hardwood to face conference rival, the Warrensburg-Latham Lady Cardinals. The night would prove tough for the Lady Maroons.
In the opening game (6th/7th grade) the teams scored very little, 6 total points in the first quarter and 10 total points in the second quarter with the Lady Cardinals taking a 10-6 four point lead. And that was all that was needed. Both teams exchanged baskets in the second half, scoring 9 points each for a final winning score for the Lady Cardinals of 19-15.
In the ensuing 8th grade game, the Lady Maroons fought hard, but the ball would not fall through the baskets for them. The home team took a one point lead in the first quarter. The second quarter the lady Cardinals went on an 8-0 run to enter the locker room at halftime with a 14-7 lead. after the half Clinton was still fighting to get shots to drop giving the visitor a 10-5 lead in the quarter. The Lady Maroons finally started a comeback in the fourth quarter, but it was too little, too late. The Lady Maroons lost 29-21.
