CLINTON — Clinton Junior High School (CJHS) has a baseball team with lots of raw talent. The team is younger than usual with a large number of 6th grade players.
They have been playing together a short time and the teamwork is beginning to show through the trials and tribulations of a game loss. The coaches are working hard to keep the focus on the games and at times the play is well done.
Monday, Aug. 1, was the first home game coverage when the field was dry or the venue had not been changed. The home team Maroons took on the Monticello Sages in a double header (“A” team first, then “B” team). To start the “A” game, neither team could get any type of rally going in the first two innings.
Finally, in the third the Sages were able to plate a run. After that one lone run, the Maroons seemed deflated and Monticello capitalized. The Sages brought in 9 runs in the fourth and capped the game with a final five runs in the 5th and final inning, topping the Maroons 15-0.
The second game was lead by the Maroons 1-0 after two innings, but the joy of Mudville stopped there. The Sages retaliated in the third inning with 4 runs and added 6 more in the fourth inning to win the battle 10-1.
