CLINTON — After taking second place in their own Clinton Invitational, the hometown Maroons wrestlers hit the mats tangling with the Olympia Spartans and the Tremont Turks (short for Turkeys-named for the Tremont Turkey Festival per one of their fans).
The first round pitted the Maroons against the Turks. Even with four pins of their own (Christian Reynolds, Kolby Winter, Brett Reeves, and Trevor Willis), the Maroons scored no other points and the opposition cruised to a 45-24 win.
The second round saw the Spartans face the Turks and again the Olympia team was overpowering with a 50-18 win, giving them the triangular title with two wins.
In the final pairing, the Maroons struggled with a pin, a scored win, and a loss by pin, including a point removed from the team score for unsportsmanlike conduct. The team then came back with five wins by pins, the last pin scoring 6 points to bring the team from behind by 2 points to a 4-point win, 34-31.
Clintons pins were by Brett Reeves, Trevor Willis, Even Deavers, Hunter Martin, and Kaeden Sloat-Shannon. The Spartans took home two losses and Clinton end the evening with a win and a loss.
