Lady Maroons take two wins over Shelbyville

Posted

CLINTON — January 23 weather conditions threatened the Lady Maroons’ home stand against the Shelbyville Lady Rams.

The Lady Rams arrived late, but the games still began after a delay, and the junior varsity (JV) game was shortened allowing the varsity game to complete before the freezing rain began.

The JV game started slow as the Lady Rams had a short warm-up and the Lady Maroons had warmed up and then waited for the oppositions arrival, leaving them off their game.  However, the Lady Maroons built a 6-point lead by the half and then in the shortened second half went on a 13-2 run to secure their win 31-14.

The Lady Maroons were led by Chloe Griffin, who led the team with a game- high 15 points.  She was also the only player in double figures.

The varsity game started as if it would be close as the teams battled to only a 3-point separation at the end of one quarter.

Then, the Lady Maroons lit up Vance Gymnasium with some fireworks, 27 points in the second quarter, while holding the Lady Rams to just five points.

The Lady Maroons played more ball control in the second half and kept the opposition regaining any momentum.

In the end, the Lady Maroons took the win is large fashion, 64-34 over the Lady Rams.

Mallory Cyrulik led the Lady Maroons with a game-high 22 points, followed by Kaitlyn Rauch with 18 points.
