CLINTON — Unofficial sources have confirmed for the Clinton Journal the R.R. Donnelley company plans to close it’s Clinton facility June 1.

The closure will idle dozens of employees.

The company, which started business in the 1950s as Wallace Press, has remained one of Clinton’s major employers for 67 years.  Several generations of Clinton residents have worked at the plant.

Over the years, the 225,000 square-foot plant has produced print products for national and international clients.

The company has also scheduled the closure of its Conover, N.C. plant in May, idling 82 employees, according to local media there.   In 2023, R.R. Donnelley announced the closure of a Lancaster, Pa. plant, laying off more than 600 workers.

The company’s corporate headquarters has not yet responded to Journal enquiries about the Clinton plant closure.
