CLINTON — Apart from the rain, Friday’s CHS home game against the Shelbyville Rams was all about the second half.
Early scoring by both teams during the first half resulted in a slight 7-6 lead for the Maroons going into halftime.
If the rain had any effect on Maroons defense, it didn’t show. The Maroons essentially shut down the Rams’ passing game.
The Rams put the ball in the air at every opportunity but without much to show for it. This made Shelbyville vulnerable to two Maroons interceptions, both by senior Clayton Welch. Welch also scored two TDs during the game.
Maroons’ offense powered up in the second half with quarterback Ty Berter completing 12 of 22 for 106 yards passing, including connecting for a pair of touchdowns.
Tyrese Petty was on top of Maroons’ offense, carrying the ball 16 times for a total of 84 yards and one touchdown.
Clinton advanced to 3-0 on the season with the 23-6 win over Shelbyville.
The Maroons are 1-0 in conference play.
Friday also was JFL Night, and the league’s young players were introduced.
