CLINTON – After over 40 years of service as the children’s librarian, Paula Lopatic will retire from the Vespasian Warner Public Library on August 31.

Lopatic went to library school with the goal of becoming a children’s librarian in a small town, a rarity in the library world.

Just before graduation, Paula saw an ad for her dream position at the Vespasian Warner Public Library, and since 1980, she has dedicated her career to bringing the magic of reading to the children of the community. She has always approached kids on their level, taken the time to get to know them and has never been afraid to get dirty, wet, covered in paint, or to hang out with large reptiles during her tenure.

For many, Paula has been the face of the library, whether in the classroom with her alligator purse or dressed as Tigger in the Christmas parade. She has helped steer the library through big changes, from computer automation to the new building.

Even in her last year of service, Paula created new ways of serving patrons during the COVID crisis. Library staff members said they will miss her dedication, her passion, and her enthusiasm.

In lieu of a reception, shower Paula with cards and notes to honor her dedication to the Vespasian Warner Public Library District. Cards can be dropped off at the library during current hours of Monday-Thursday from 11 a.m.-7 p.m. and Friday-Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Cards can also be mailed to the Vespasian Warner Public Library, Attn: Paula Lopatic at 310 N.
