CJHS Lady Maroons trade situations in win / loss results

CLINTON — The situation reversed with the CJHS Lady Maroons this week, as seventh and eighth grade teams traded outcomes.

On Tuesday, this week, the Clinton Junior High eighth grade team pulled out of their slump to win a game.

The night began with the seventh grade team first up against the Parkside (Bloomington/Normal) Pythons.  The Lady Pythons slithered by the Lady Maroons in the second quarter and held their 2-point lead through the third quarter.

In the final quarter, the opposition extended its lead by two more points to win 32-28.  A close game, but a loss for the seventh grade team.

Regan Filkin lead the team with 12 points, followed by Alaina Helfand with six.

Then the eighth graders hit the hardwood for what became a thriller.

Although the home team led from the start, they allowed the Lady Pythons to wrap them up in a strangle hold and had to fight hard to escape with the win.

The opposition stayed within five points throughout the game until they could sneak in and surprise the Lady Maroons.  The Lady Pythons outscored the home team in the final quarter to tie the game several times, the last with 16 seconds left.

However, with a loose ball bounce off everyone (but no one claiming it), Clinton’s Addie Koritz grabbed it and fired at the goal, scoring the winning two points and lifting the eighth grade Lady Maroons to their first win in a while.

The Lady Maroons were led by Makayla Koeppel with 10 points followed by Heidi Humble and Addie Koritz with 7 points each.
