CLINTON — The Clinton High School golf team finished its “regular” season last week with a pair of triangular meets. This season was rearranged and shortened due to the pandemic and the stipulations governing where and against whom they could compete.
Along with having mostly new members this year, it was a struggle for all golf teams.
The first meet was with the Central A&M Raiders and the St. Thomas More Sabers on the Maroons home course, the Clinton Country Club. St. Thomas More took the team honors with a 178 score, followed closely by the home team Maroons at 188.
The Raiders trailed to third place with a 239. The medalist (best scoring player) on the day was Wilson Kirby of the Sabers with a score of 38 on the par 35 course. Clinton’s top golfer of the day was Mason Walker shooting a 40.
The final season match-up was at the par 36 Hickory Point Golf Course in Forsyth. This meet was with perennial foes the St. Teresa Bulldogs and the Maroa/Forsyth Trojans, both who use this course as their home turf. The Trojans lead the way scoring a 174 with the Maroons hot phot their heels shooting a 175.
St. Teresa finished third with a 181. This meet also had two, yes two, medalists, Tyler Davis of Maroa/Forsyth and Cody Dodson of St. Teresa. They both scored a 38 for the day.
Brooks Cluver was Clinton’s lead golfer with a 39, just one off the pace. The Maroons ended the regular season at 7-11, not bad at all for a very weird year having a fairly new team. #Maroon Strong, #Maroon Pride.
