CLINTON — Basketball has arrived at Clinton Junior High School.
The teams (both seventh and eighth grade) have been on the road for several games and now get some home court time.
The first home games were against Rt. 51 rival, the Maroa-Forsyth Lady Trojans. The initial game of the seventh grade team was an edge-of-your-seat experience as the Lady Trojans took a small lead early, but the Lady Maroons came back and the game was close to the end.
The Lady Maroons prevailed in the end winning 21-19. The home team was led by Alaina Helfand with 15 points.
The eighth graders then hit the hardwood for the second game of the evening, and this was not the same outcome as hoped for.
The Lady Trojan 8th graders were the better team on this night with a stronger inside offense and a quick, swarming defense that created more turnovers than the Lady Maroons could afford.
The opposition tripled the home team’s score in the first quarter and held a comfortable lead from then on taking home a 30-22 win.
The Lady Maroons were led by Ashley Armstrong with 7 points, followed by Makayla Koeppel with 5, then Aalaina Helfand and Aidyn Barter with 4 points each.
