CJHS Lady Maroons: Wins continue for 7th grade, losses for 8th grade

CLINTON — Last week, the Lady Maroons, of Clinton Junior High School, fell into a rut.  It seems the seventh-graders couldn’t lose, but the eighth grade team couldn’t win.

After the initial win/loss with the Maroa-Forsyth Lady Trojans, the teams faced the Warrensburg-Latham Lady Cardinals at home with the same result.

Next, the home teams played ball with the Tri-Valley Lady Vikings on Thursday, October 10.  The seventh grade team won again, beating the Lady Vikings 27-18, leading the entire game.  The final quarter was a stretch as the Lady Vikings went on a 12 to 2 runto make the score closer than the game really was.

Regan Filkin lead the Lady Maroons with 11 points, followed by Alaina Helfand with 8 points.

Then, the eighth-graders took the floor for another defeat.  The Lady Maroons were tough through the first three quarters, but began losing control after the half when the Lady Vikings came out on a tear to out score againt the home team 11-6 in the third quarter and 12 -2 in the fourth to drop the home team 32-26.

Heidi Humble lead the Lady Maroons with 10 points followed by Makayla Koeppel with 8.

To round out the week, the Lady Maroons took on the Lady Mustangs of Ridgeview.  The games began well as the seventh grade team won handily 37-10 with Brielle Morrison leading the way with 14 points.

There seemed to be hope for the eighth grade team at this point.  However, the opposition led the scoring in every quarter but the last, and the Lady Maroons made a valiant effort to come back although a few points short left them with their fourth loss in a row 29-35.  Makayla Koeppel scored 15 points for ther Lady Maroons, but it was not enough to carry the team through.  Hopefully a new week will bring a change.
