Encore Thrift moving ahead with renovations

CLINTON — Shoppers to Encore Thrift Store may have noticed the construction work underway on the east side of the building, where crews are replacing about 200 feet of wall.

Located on Route 10 east of Clinton, the store has undergone major work over the past five years, much of it in response to life safety concerns raised by the state fire marshal’s office.

Major repairs to the exterior walls of the structure that originally served as a livestock auction center, have cost $450,000, according to Stephanie Coonce, executive director of Encore Developmental Services. Some repairs were completed because of structural issues.

The organization that provides training and employment to 48 people with developmental disabilities has classroom space to teach life skills and hires disabled workers in the thrift store.

Encore also provides job training for people who have a difficult time finding a job because of a mental health diagnosis.
