Ladies’ JV wins close holiday game; varsity falls by a point

Posted

CLINTON — On Monday, The Lady Maroons were at home on the hardwood of Vance Gymnasium to face the Mt. Pulaski Lady Hilltoppers.

The junior varsity (JV) game kicked off the evening’s events with the opposition taking a 7-point lead in the first quarter.  The home team seemed sluggish and were having struggles as a team playing their positions.

The Lady Maroons settled down and were able to close the gap at halftime to 5 points, and by the third quarter, the Lady Maroons had the Lady Hilltoppers in their sites, closing the gap to a mere 2 points.

In the final quarter, the home team appeared to become more cohesive, completing a 10-4 run to win the game 29-25.

The Lady Maroons were led by Alaina Soberalsky (#24) with 12 points (including two 3-point conversions) and she also led all scorers in the game.

The varsity was also on the struggle bus this evening, although they came away with the tip off, as did the JV team.
