The Clinton Junior High School (CJHS) baseball team has completed

tryouts and practiced on Aug. 4, but the practice was overshadowed by events on the softball field: CJHS softball hosting its first home round-robin tournament.

In addition to the Lady Maroons, the Lady Panthers from LeRoy and the Lady

Potters from Morton were in attendance.

This was a test for the start of the season for a young Lady Maroon team to play two games with just a

short break in between, but the outcome was positive for the home team.

The first game pitted the Lady Panthers against the home town Lady

Maroons.

The Lady Maroons lead off the game with two runs in the first

inning, but were out gunned by the Lady Panthers who rallied with 4 runs

in the second and third innings. Down by 2, the Lady Maroons cut into the lead by one run in the fourth inning. LeRoy then

scored an insurance run in the fifth--or so they

thought.

Clinton exploded in the bottom of the fifth inning with 3 runs

to cancel LeRoy’s insurance and take the lead again.

To top off their first win of the season the Lady Maroons then added another run to win

7-5 over the Lady Panthers.

In the second game, the Lady Panthers faced

the Lady Potters, who took control of this game from the start. Morton

was in the lead by 8 before LeRoy scored their first run in the third

inning. Although the Lady Panthers made an effort to come back

with three runs in each of the 6th and 7th innings, they fell short with

Morton winning 11-7.

Morton took the early lead in the

final game of the day with a 3-0 lead in the top of the 3rd inning.

The Lady Maroons then caught fire and scored three runs in the bottom of

the third to tie the game. The home team then scored 4 more runs while

allowing one run by the Potters in the seventh inning to beat Morton,

7-4.
