CLINTON — The Lady Maroons have had a tough season.
In late April and early May, it seemed they had turned the corner by winning five of six games, but they have now fallen err to their previous ways with three losses in a row and only one regular scheduled game before tournament time.
The Lady Maroons, currently at 8-16, will lose five starters at season’s end, including their starting pitcher. Even with all this, the team managed to tie for third place in conference play this season.
One of their final home stands was a double-header with the Central A&M Raiders in which the Lady Maroons needed only one win to secure sole third place in the conference.
After being blanked in the first game, the home team struck first in the second game only to lose their way in the late innings and drop the second game also.
Although they are losing five good starters, the coaches still have 14 ladies on the roster to hopefully return next season with some new recruits in as well.
