CLINTON — The pandemic season has not been kind to the Lady Maroons, but they continue to hang-in there.
The varsity players hadn’t been able to win a game, and the junior varsity (JV) hasn’t even had a game available to play. The JV is still gameless, but the varsity took their situation in-hand on May 10.
The Sullivan Redskins came to town looking for an easy encounter with a losing team but miscalculated on this day.
The Redskins led off with a run in the top of the first inning but were topped by the Lady Maroons bringing home 2 runs of their own in the bottom of the inning on a home run by Heidi Humble. The home team continued with 2 more runs in the second on a couple of hits, a walk, and a batter hit by a pitch.
Each team scored a pair of runs in the fourth inning, but the fifth inning was all Lady Maroons with 4 runs on five hits (including a triple by Humble) and another hit batsman and 10 Clinton batters going to the plate.
The opposition plated one run in the sixth and then rallied for three runs on a single, a double and a home run in the seventh but then fizzled out, leaving the Lady Maroons in the lead and with the win, 10-7.
The Lady Maroons were led by Heidi Humble with 3-5 at the plate (including a double, a triple and a home run and six RBIs), Chloe Griffin with 3-5 and 4 RBIs, and Savannah Clifton at 3-4 and 3 RBIs.
#Maroon Strong,
never give in
