Maroons golfers advance to sectionals

CLINTON — On September 23, the Clinton High School (CHS) golf teams traveled to the Moweaqua Golf Course to play in the Central Illinois Conference Tournament.  The boys team has been close to the top in several tournaments lately, but this time came away with the win.

The golfers won out over six other conference teams with the closest (the Sullivan Redskins) being 9 strokes behind.  The Maroons were led by Brooks Cluver (tied for second) with an 80, Aiden Toohill in 4th with an 82, and Drew Milton tied for sixth with an 85.  The top golfer of the day was Cody Dodson of St. Teresa with a 79 on the par 72 course.

The Lady Maroons also played well.  There were no team scores since each school fell short of having enough players for a full team.  But, they did get individual scores counting towards regional and sectional play.

Sarah Mills took top honors for Clinton finishing 4th overall and Hannah Righter finished tied for sixth.  All in all; agood outing for the Maroons and the Lady Maroons.

On Wednesday and Thursday (September 29/30) of last week, the Clinton High School boys golf team headed to the regionals sponsored by Rochester High School.  The second day, the Lady Maroons team played in Decatur.  The boys team placed 6th in the team standings and the girls team placed 9th, so will end their team seasons there.

However, there are several individuals moving on to the sectionals.  For the Maroons, Brooks Cluver (tied for 13th) and Mason Walker (tied for 16th) will both move on to sectionals individual play.  For the Lady Maroons side, Carly Earle (tied for 14th) and Sarah Mills (16th) will both be moving on to sectionals in individual play.
