Council clarifies short-term rentals

On Jan. 6, the Clinton City Council concluded short-term rental units, located in residential neighborhoods, sometimes known as BNBs, were in violation of city code because the code did not specifically address them under zoning.  As of the beginning of 2024, the city still is working to develop and implement an ordinance that will permit their operation in residential areas.

New year, new spaces, new furniture

Warner Library children’s librarian Corey Campbell announced a renovation would begin to the children’s library on the second floor after securing a grant.  The area was reorganized and the grant helped pay for new furniture.

County gets updates on wind bill

The DeWitt County Board discussed an Illinois law, which began in June, to make it easier for wind electric generating companies to set up shop in Illinois.  The bill set state standards for the industry and restricted the level to which county governments can regulate wind projects.

Maroons branch bank open for business at CES

First National Bank & Trust, in cooperation with the school district, started a branch bank location for kids at Clinton Elementary School.  The program was designed to teach children about saving and savings accounts.
