Perserverance and kicking give Clinton win

CLINTON — In a hard- fought rugby-style scrum football game on Friday April 9, the hometown Clinton Maroons came back from a deficit to hold on to a slim lead and beat the Meridian Hawks.

The game was marred by numerous unsportsmanlike penalties, most by the opposition, with yellow penalty flags flying everywhere.

The game began with the opposition scoring within the first three minutes.  The Maroons then fumbled the ball, but the Hawks could not move the ball on two consecutive possessions before the end of the first quarter.

Starting the second quarter, the Hawks again scored within two minutes into the start.  With both extra points made, the visitors led 14-0.
