Three Lady Maroons qualify for State track

CLINTON — This season’s 2018 Girls’ Class 2A Track & Field Sectionals were held in Monticello for the Lady Maroons.  There were 20 Lady Maroons involved, and ,as a team, they took 8th place out of 16 teams.  

Three Lady Maroons qualified to go to the state finals.  Payne Turney qualified in the 800-meter run, finishing first for the sectional championship, followed by Kolby Weiss qualifying in pole vault and Riley Pruser qualifying in the high jump.  

Also reaching lifetime personal records at the meet were RyTy Dupont-Barlow in the 100-meter dash, Tori Burke in the 200-meter dash, Hadley Wilson in the 400-meter dash and Jackie Green in the 400-meter dash and the outdoor pole vault.  

Along with those Lady Maroons, the following hit personal bests in relays: 

Tori Burke, Riley Pruser, Maggie Werts and Madi Filkin in the 4x100 meter relay; Madi Filkin, Maggie Werts, Payne Turney and Tori Burke in the 4x200 meter relay; and Lyric Griffith with a personal record 4x400 meter relay split.  

There was one more meet before the state finals, The Champaign News-Gazette Honor Roll Meet, held in Urbana.  The Clinton Lady Maroons placed 5th overall out of 27 teams entered.  Those placing for the Lady Maroons were madi Filkin 5th in the 200- meter dash, Payne Turney 4th in the 400-meter dash, Julia Sterr 5th in the 1600-meter run and 2nd in the 3200-meter run, Madi Filkin 7th in the 100-meter hurdles, and the team of Madi Filkin-Maggie Werts-Riley Pruser-Tori Burke was 6th in the 2x200 relay.  

In the field side Claudia Workman was 3rd in the shot put, Riley Pruser tied for 3rd in the high jump, and Jena Thomas was 8th in the triple jump.
