Weldon Springs group camp getting major renovations

Posted

CLINTON — Soon, Weldon Springs will have a “new” group camp available for the community’s use, thanks to the work of local BSA Scout Troop 142 and some generous donors.

The once-shuttered Black Locust Group Camp is getting some much-needed upgrades that will benefit all who reserve the site.  In addition to the work the scouts have already completed (roofing pavilion, graveling under the pavilion, brush and tree removal), the scouts’ latest, and biggest, project, will be the installation of new bathrooms.

Items have been ordered, and construction will begin soon.  To assist with the cost of the project, BSA Boy Scout Troop 142, along with Weldon Springs Foundation, will host a drive-through fundraiser dinner on Saturday, September 5 from 4 – 7 p.m. at the American Legion.

The meal will include a grilled pork chop, baked potato, green beans and roll for $10.

TICKETS SHOULD BE PURCHASED IN ADVANCE – A LIMITED NUMBER OF TICKETS WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE FUNDRAISER.

A kids meal will also be offered and consists of a hotdog and chips for $3 (available at the door only).  All money raised will go towards the restoration of the Black Locust Group Camp at Weldon Springs State Park.

If you would like tickets or more information, contact Kim Pakidis at 217-201-8622 or a local Boy Scout.  If you can’t attend the dinner and would still like to help, you may send a donation to:  Weldon Springs Foundation, P.O. Box 323, Clinton, IL 61727.  Be sure to put BLACK LOCUST in the memo.
