CLINTON — The Clinton Junior High Lady Maroons’ softball team season is on.  The ladies A team began the season playing in a round robin tournament at LeRoy on Saturday, August 5, against the Tri-Valley Lady Vikings and the Morton lady potters.

The lady Maroons won their first game over the Lady Vikings 4-1, but due to some untimely errors and insufficient offense, the Lady Maroons dropped their second game 7-4 to the Lady Potters.

Next on the agenda was another away game (a double header) with the Argenta-Oreana Lady Bombers with both the A and B teams playing.  The A team was up first and started a little down.  They did not score in the first and pitcher Kaylee Yost was not spot on at the start allowing one run to score.

The defense held though and kept any more runners from crossing the plate.  In the second, Clinton came back with a single run while stranding two on base.  With the score tied, the Lady Bombers added a run in the third inning only to be topped by the Lady Maroons with a lead off double followed by another double and a single scoring 2 runs.

This gave Clinton the lead that they would not relinquish.  The fourth and fifth innings saw the Lady Maroons add two more runs each inning, with the Lady Bombers adding their last run ion the top of the fifth.

The sixth inning was scoreless as the Lady Bombers brought in a new pitcher.  Clinton then unloaded on the new pitcher in the 7th inning creating a merry-go-round effect, scoring seven unanswered runs for a 14-3 win.

Kaylee Yost (#7) pitched a complete game with a highlight of facing three batters in the 4th inning and getting 3 strikeouts (among her other strikeouts in the game).  Kaylee and Kianna Easton had triples to the fence to lead the offense of a group of timely singles and doubles spread throughout the roster.

The second game was shortened due to time to three innings.  The first inning had both teams scoring one run each, followed by a second inning where the teams scored 3 runs apiece.  Clinton finally held the Lady Bombers scoreless in the third while scoring 2 more runs of their own to take the win 6-4.  The A team is now 2-1 on the season and the B team is 1-0.  The teams will be in action on Saturday morning (August 12) at 10:30 a.m.  The Lady Maroons next play at home tonight (Friday, August 11) at 4:30 p.m.
