CLINTON — The Clinton Junior High Lady Maroons were back home on Monday for one night.  The home team was pitted against Route 51 arch rival, the Maroa-Forsyth Lady Trojans.

The 7th grade teams took to the hardwood first and the play was intense.  The first quarter ended in a tie at 4 points each.  In the second quarter, the Lady Maroons upped their energy and came away with a three-point lead by halftime.

The third quarter arrived with the Lady Trojans getting a spark and out scoring the home team by 2 to come within one point of the Lady Maroons at 18-17.  The fourth quarter became a battle with each team taking timeouts to out strategize their opponent.

In the end, it came down to one final goal for the home team after several missed rebounds, and then, leaving enough time on the clock for the Lady Trojans to drive down the court and take a couple of missed shots, giving the home team a one-point win at 25-24.

The Lady Maroons were led by Averie Fatheree (#2) with 10 points.

The 8th grade game began with the Lady Maroons taking an early 14-6 lead.  The home team then added 6 more points, while holding the Lady Trojans scoreless in the second quarter for a big 20-6 halftime lead.

By the end of the third quarter, the Lady Maroons had up their total, 30-9.

Then came quarter four.  With the Lady Maroons well in the lead, the second string was brought in late in the game.  However, the Lady Trojans kept in their best shooters and blockers and the score began to get closer.  The home team staved off the new attack and came away with the 34-21 win.

The 8th grade Lady Maroons were led by Clara Dempsey (#25) with 14 points and Lilah Cluver (#14) with 11 points.
