Maroons’ golfers finish third in Central Illinois Conference Tournament

Posted

MOWEAQUA — On September 29, the Clinton High School golf team traveled southward to Moweaqua to play in the Central Illinois Conference Golf Tournament.  This year’s tournament was held at Moweaqua Golf Course, a 5,183 yard, par 72 course.

Although the field of players was not as large as usual, due to the pandemic, there were seven teams in the competition.

Those on hand this year were Central A&M, Clinton, Meridian, Shelbyville, St. Teresa, Sullivan, and Tuscola.  Sullivan was the team to watch this year as they took the team championship with six golfers in the top 10.

Sullivan’s Drew Rogers was the tournament medalist, shooting a score of 75 (3 over par).  Rogers also led the All Conference Team with teammates Logan Westjohn, Camden Dwyer, Leyton Ellis, and Will Haegen.

The third place Maroons were led by Brooks Cluver, who shot an 87 on the day.  Clinton had two golfers in the top 10, Cluver and Mason Walker.

The Maroons had a good showing for a young team that has had few meets this season due to the pandemic regulations.  #Maroon Strong, # Maroon Pride
