Maroons suffer narrow 6-5 loss
to Lincoln in Regional playoffs

LINCOLN — The Clinton Maroons entered the regional playoffs on Thursday, May 25, in Lincoln. Their opponent was the Lincoln Railssplitters.
The game began with Lincoln using their home field advantage. The scored two runs in the second and one in the third to take a nice lead. The Maroons then came out in the fifth with two runs of their own the cut into the deficit.
However, the Railsplitters added another run in the bottom of the inning to stretcher their lead to two runs, then added another run in the sixth for a 5-2 lead.
In an exciting final inning, Clinton came alive for 3 runs to tie the game and possibly extend play, until Lincoln took their turn at the plate. The Railsplitters were able to get a player in scoring position, and that he did in one final game ending play for a 6-5 Lincoln win, ending the Maroons season.
Jake Wade pitched 6 and one third innings for the Maroons and took the loss. He tossed 22 first pitch strikes for 6 strikeouts. Also for the Maroons: Levi Nettles and Logan Peterson each had an RBI; Jake Wade (2), Mac Hickman (1), and Keaton Thayer (1) accumulated for 4 walks; and Jake Wade (3), Mac Hickman (2), and Trevor Osgood (2) accounted for 7 quality at bats.
The Maroons made a good showing in the regionals and now have some time to rebuild and recoup for the next season.
