Tough trio of games for Central Illinois Revolution

Posted

CLINTON — In a warm-up week prior to the third edition of the Midwest Slugfest this past weekend, the hometown Central Illinois Revolution played a double-header against the Twin City Rage and a single outing with the Eureka Legion team.

First on the agenda was the Rage and the twin bill of games.  The first game was a hard fought affair with several lead changes.  The Rage lead off with a run in the first only to be topped by the Revolution in the bottom of the inning with 2 runs of their own.

The next round of bat blasts started in the third inning with four runs scored by the Rage.  The Revolution answered with two runs to pull within 1 run of a tie.  In the fifth inning another onslaught began at the plate with five more runs for the opposition.

The Revolution was up to the call, though, as they scored 6 runs in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 10 runs apiece.  Then the bottom fell through for the Revolution as the Rage exploded for 8 unanswered runs in the seventh inning to give the Revolution an 18-10 loss.

The back end of the two games was all Twin City Rage.  Bats were silent until the third inning when the Rage came alive with six unanswered runs followed by 3 runs in the fourth and four runs in the fifth.

The Revolution finally touched the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning for two runs, but it was not enough to stop the end of the game due to the 10-run ruling, the Revolution losing13-2.

In a follow-up game later in the scheme of time, the Revolution faced the American Legion team from Eureka in a final warm-up to the Midwest Slugfest session III.  This game was disaster for the Revolution as their bats were held to just three hits in the game.

Coach Ennis used several pitchers, however, Eureka seemed dialed in on anyone throwing from the mound as the barrage started in the fourth inning and continued through the sixth with Eureka up 4-0. In the final inning, Eureka brought in 4 subs who helped add 6 more runs for a Eureka 10-0 win.
