CLINTON — The city made official on March 5 the naming of the city arboretum The Carol McFeeters-Thompson Arboretum, in honor of the local naturalist.  Thompson passed away in July 2015.

Commissioner John Wise read the city proclamation, which reiterated several points put forth in the proposal during a February council meeting.

The Clinton Tree Commission announced its plan February 6 to name the city arboretum for Thompson.

Wise served with Thompson on the city Tree Commission.

Thompson also was site interpreter of the Union Schoolhouse area of Weldon Springs and led many workshops at the park for students over the years, including her help during Stewardship Days sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension.  Thompson also visited local schools each year during Earth Day activities, and she wrote a regular column for the Clinton Journal.
