CLINTON — Commissioner Ken Buchanan reported Aug. 2 the clean-up phase was under way concluding the city’s annual summer street maintenance.  He thanked city workers for their efforts, including brush clean-up from recent storms.

Commissioner John Wise said approval of water plant work listed on the agenda involved a normal maintenance project.

“They pull the pump, they check all the pipes,” Wise said.  “It’s something we do periodically.”

Wise also pointed out the engineering agreement for the upcoming water plant improvements also was listed on the agenda.

Project manager Greg Myroth attended a July city council meeting to answer questions about the project.

Acting mayor Tom Edmunds reported he had the privilege to speak at the recent 100th anniversary of the First Church of the Nazarene.  Edmunds said the event was well-attended.

“That was, indeed, a pleasure to be able to go there and speak,” Edmunds said.  “And, then, talking about longevity and anniversaries …it seems to be getting closer and closer, Clinton is going to celebrate its bicentennial in 11 years in 2035.”

And, under new business, the council approved the following:

• Purchase and installation of Meado public safety equipment for two Ford interceptor utility vehicles not to exceed $24,000

• Engineering proposal for water plant improvements and new water tower from Mead & Hunt for $375,000

• Supplemental resolution for MFT (Motor Fuel Tax) funding for S. Madison Street project from Cummins Engineering for $14,937

• Liberty Lane resurfacing bid from Dunn Company for $79,351.70

• Sale of property at 917 W. North Street to Kelly Riggs for $1,700

• 801 S. Side Square awning proposal from Kyle and Melissa Morris

• Ordinance 13-3 creating city code solar regulations

At the Aug. 20 council meeting, commissioners will consider policies and procedures for Clinton Fire Department, as well as several expenditure items.
