CLINTON — September is Workforce Development Month, and recently, executive director Rocky Wilkerson, of Workforce Investment Solutions, addressed county board officials about her agency.

Wilkerson asked the board to pass a proclamation declaring September Workforce Development Month in DeWitt County.

“Macon and DeWitt counties are going to be highlighting a lot of activities to assist with hiring events, job training, with workshops and some interesting things,” Wilkerson said.

Workforce Investment Solutions also was a part of the former Clinton Youth Initiative program.

“We try to reduce barriers for people who are finding it very difficult to get a job,” Wilkerson said.  “I’ve attached a flier, and it shows what we have going on.”

She said the plan was to have workforce development activities each day during September.

“I’m excited about the military days, the ROTC days, the apprenticeship days.” Wilkerson said.  “There will be CNA classes.”

She said she had sessions she was conducting at Warner Hospital and Clintonia Eagle Theater, “with economic development and the Chambers.”

“If you know anyone who needs some help, this would be a great time,” Wilkerson said.  “This would be a great time to highlight the whole month.”
