CLINTON — County board road and bridge committee chairman Jamie Prestegaard reported seal-coating of township and county roads was nearing completion.  His report took place during the Sept. 24 full county board meeting.

Prestegaard also reported DeWitt County was informed it would be the recipient of a grant.  The county was notified by the Illinois Association of County Engineers.

The grant is from Google.org.  DeWitt County was one of six Illinois counties to receive the grant.

“The application was made by the Illinois Association of County Engineers,” said DeWitt County engineer Mark Mathon.  “…In conjunction with a company that several of the involved counties have been doing business with.”

The grant is specifically to develop a software platform to help with assessment of roadway infrastructure.  Mathon said it also would include a budgeting and manpower component.

“So the majority of the funding has gone to the contractor and the software programming side,” Mathon said.

The board also approved the resolution reappointing the county engineer.

The following people were appointed to the corresponding boards:

• James Powers, Barnett Special Drainage District County of DeWitt, State of Illinois

• Ron Ferguson, Clintonia Special Drainage District County of DeWitt, State of Illinois

• Steve Bridges to the Regional Planning Commission for a three-year term to expire April 2029.

• Terry Ferguson to the Regional Planning Commission (RPC) to fill the vacancy from Brian Riddle’s resignation (term to expire April 2029).

Board chairman Joe Witte said Ferguson’s appointment to the RPC at this time was to bring membership on the commission up to quorum level.  Ferguson had already expressed interest in serving on the RPC after his county board tenure expired.

“We’re really struggling right now to get a quorum,” Witte said.

Witte said Ferguson’s appointment would get the RPC up to five members for the seven-person commission.  He also said there currently was a vacancy on the Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA).
