CLINTON — Monday, July 23, saw some of the Lady Maroons and their coaches at the track and field areas for their Third Annual Maroon Pride Night track & field fundraiser.
All ages were welcome, and this was a family event. Registration (donations for entry fees) was from 5:30 - 6:15 p.m. with field events beginning at 6 p.m. and running events kicking off at 6:30 p.m.
Stuck in the middle were mini clinics in shot put, pole vault and high jump. The runs were the most family fun as everyone had a chance to participate if they wished; and all went to a good cause. Many schools are dropping various sports due to lack of funding, so this was a way for the community to step up and help support their schools and student athletes.
The fun included the 60-meter mini hurdles (ages 10 and under) and the toddler 20- meter dash (ages 0 - 3) to the 60-meter silver sprint (ages 50+). Also run were a 100-meter dash, a 400-meter dash, a 4 x 100 meter relay (for teams and/or family groups), and a mile run (1600 meters).
In the field events, there was pole vaulting, high jumping, and shot putting. And for added enjoyment there was a T-Rex on hand who actually participated in the 60-meter dash - although no one was sure in what division or classification. He ran so fast he appeared to lose his head during the race.
With a start to the season like this, how can the Lady Maroons go wrong?
