HANNIBAL, Mo. — Earl W.  Spencer, 86, of Hannibal, Mo., passed away at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 3, 2017, at his home. 

 Funeral Services will be at 1p.m. on Monday, April 10, 2017, at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal.  Burial with full military rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post #55 will be at Grand View Burial Park in Hannibal.

Friends and family are invited to Earl’s Life Celebration at a visitation that will be held from noon until the time of services on Monday at the James O’Donnell Funeral Home.

Earl was born on May 22, 1930, in Clinton, to Carl W. and Opal Owens Spencer.

He was married to Barbara Ann Reynolds on June 14, 1953, in Clinton.  She survives.

Other survivors include two sons, Ronald Lee Spencer (Janet Sue) of New London, Mo., Mark Wesley Spencer (Kim) of Hannibal, Mo., five grandchildren, Melissa Spencer, Donald Spencer, Melanie Bramon (Robert), Brad Spencer, Holly Spencer, one step grandchild, Ben Beilsmith, four great- grandchildren, Cody Shaffer, Harper Bramon, Haven Bramon and Jaise Pfeifer and 1 niece, LaVerne Powers (Dan) of California.

He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Bonnie Vinson, an infant brother, Floyd Udell Spencer and a nephew, Mike Vinson.

Earl served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict earning the rank of Master Sergeant.

Earl retired from the Norfolk and Southern Railroad after over 49 years of service, where he worked as an engineer.  Earl also previously worked for the Illinois Central Railroad.  In his retirement Earl enjoyed working at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts, where he was an associate for 15 years.

Away from work Earl enjoyed time with friends and family.  Earl never met a stranger; he loved to visit and was always quick with a joke or witty comment.  Simple pleasures, like tinkering in his shop or watching old westerns or war movies were special for Earl.  In his younger years Earl enjoyed boating and hunting.  Travelling with his wife, Barbara to Lady Lake, Florida, Branson or Lake Ozark were also enjoyable for Earl.  His family will always remember his witty nature and loving spirit.

Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association in care of the James O’Donnell Funeral Home. 

Pallbearers will be Ben Beilsmith, Cody Shaffer, Donald Spencer, Robert Bramon, and Brad Spencer.
