DENVER, Colo. — Charles Marvin Burton, known as Marvin to his family and close friends, passed away in Denver, Colo. on December 27, 2023.

Marvin was born in Clinton, on August 3, 1949, to Charles 0. and Marjorie Jones Burton. He attended Clinton schools, including Douglas Elementary School, Clinton Junior High School, and Clinton Community High School from which he was graduated in 1967.

Marvin’s post-secondary education included a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana and his law degree from the John Marshall Law School, Chicago, as well as graduate studies in Spanish at the University of New Mexico.

Marvin practiced law in New Mexico and Colorado prior to his retirement. He loved the natural beauty of the west, where he chose to spend his adult life.

Survivors include his aunts, Edna Frances Jones Reinhold of Ellisville, Mo., and Alberta B. Burton, of rural DeWitt, Ill, and nine first cousins, Martin Kinert, of Woodstock, Ill.; Christina Scrivano, of Rockford, Ill.; Carolyn Bounds, of Center, Texas; Linda Avrett, of Jefferson, Texas; Marla Burton, of Clinton; Eric Burton, of Lincoln Ill.; Renee Isaac of Clinton; Toni Wallner, of Farmer City, Ill.; and Lori Pries, of Bloomington, Ill.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his maternal grandparents Pavey and Leila Bennett Jones, his paternal grandparents Robert 0. Burton and Opal Ross Burton, and six first cousins.

Per Marvin’s wishes, he was cremated and his ashes will be interred with his parents in Memorial Park Cemetery, in Clinton. A family memorial will be held in Clinton.

Marvin was quiet, humble, intellectually curious, honest and kind. Marvin’s family and all others who knew him will remember him fondly.
