EDINBURG, Ill. — Carl Thomas “Tommy” Burrell, 47, of Edinburg, Ill., passed away at 6:13 a.m. on December 10, 2023, at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, after battling an illness.
Tommy was born on March 3, 1976, in Jacksonville, the son of Thomas and Vicky Beery-Burrell. He married Melissa Southard on May 22, 1998, in Springfield. She survives.
Also surviving are daughters Kayla (Jon) Burrell-Clark, of Edinburg, Tabitha Burrell, of Auburn, and Olivia Burrell (Tommy Howie), of Champaign; five granddaughters, Addison, Aria, Hadley, Jenaveve and Harper; mother Vicky (Rick) Burrell; father Tom (Karen) Burrell; sisters Sherry (Brett) Tjarks, of Bay Minette, Ala.; Leann (John) McWhorter, of Petersburg Ill., and brother Zac (Jesse) Burrell, of Loami, Ill., along with brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, the Rev. Carl and Karen Beery, and his paternal grandparents Carl and Eileen Burrell; his mother and father-in-law George and Maggie Southard and brother- in-law Joe Mabrey.
Tommy graduated from Auburn High School in 1994 and was employed for the past 25 years in the golfing industry. He enjoyed hunting, watching sports and was an avid Chicago Bears, Illini and St Louis Cardinals fan.
Graveside service at 3 p.m. on April 5 at West Woodlawn Cemetery.
