KENNEY — The 36th Annual Kenney Festival will celebrate the Village of Kenney’s 150th anniversary this year. The patriotic-themed festival will run September 10 and 11.
The festival is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 10, from 6-9 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 11, from 7 a.m.-9 p.m., including a patriotic parade at 10:30 a.m.
Festival opening ceremonies will begin at 6 p.m. on Sept. 10. The Kenney/Hallsville American Legion Post 1133 will perform the flag presentation, with Haley Leimbach singing the National Anthem. Jake Morse and Walker Leimbach will play taps; Kenney Christian Church minister Ernie Harvey, Jr. will offer the opening prayer.
At 6:15 p.m., the Sugar Creek Cloggers, from Bloomington, will perform, and festival favorite, “Elvis Himselvis,” will sing from 7-9 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 11, the festival will begin with biscuits and gravy from 7-9 a.m. at the Kenney Community Center. Donations will be accepted for breakfast.
The patriotic parade will begin at 10:30 a.m. with red, white and blue-decorated strollers, wagons, tricycles, bikes, golf carts and lawn mowers. Fire trucks and tractors also will be part of the parade. Following the parade, the DeWitt County Farm Bureau will conduct its annual tractor drive through Tunbridge Township.
Entertainment on Saturday entertainment will begin at 1 and 4 p.m. with BINGO for prizes. The K.C.C. Aides’ cake walk is scheduled for 1:30 and 4:30 p.m.; “A Touch of Magic” with Richard Landry at 2 p.m.; audience participation games and a frozen t-shirt contest at 3 p.m. At 5 p.m., The Heartland Cloggers will be featured, and at 6 p.m., “Let’s Get Patriotic. The Clinton High School M-Squad and Clinton Junior High School Dance Team will perform at 6:30 p.m. Modern Cowboyz will perform from 7-9 p.m. Festival drawings will be held at 9 p.m.
Other activities during the Saturday festival will include “Austin’s Animals” at 10 a.m.; C. Dubs Bounce House and Slide from11 a.m.-7 p.m.; Zoo Lady face painting from 4-6 p.m., with character balloons and more; “Terry’s Train Rides,” and Rhoades Brothers stock cars display.
Crafts and more are open on Friday night and Saturday.
Kenney Civic League (KCL) will sell t-shirts celebrating 150 years of the Village of Kenney. KCL also will sell walking tacos and new walking desserts. The Kenney Heritage Association (KHA) will sell root beer floats and popcorn, and the Kenney United Methodist Church will sell hamburgers and ham & beans.
Kenney Fire Department (KFD) will host its annual chicken dinner at 4 p.m., a drive-up/pick-up meal. The KFC menu will include a half-chicken, green beans, applesauce, bread, dessert and drink. Meal prices will be $10 for adults, $5 for children. They also will have annual raffle tickets available, and on Friday night will host a fire truck display.
