CLINTON — The Meridian (Macon) Lady Hawks flew onto “Gene Vance Court” to try to take down the hometown Clinton Lady Maroons in a recent volleyball match-up.

The junior varsity (JV) began the evening’s events, and the Lady Maroons won in two sets, although the first set was close (25-21).

Just prior to the start of the varsity match there was an award ceremony for the Lady Maroons’ libero Paisley Schick for reaching 1,000 diggers in her Maroons career.  She also is on track to set a school record before graduating.

The varsity match began with the home team reeling off nine straight points before the opposition could score a point.  From there, it was a back and forth set with neither team gaining any advantage.  However, the initial onslaught by the Lady Maroons was enough to keep them in a comfortable lead.  The home team took the first set, 25-14.

The second set was an even match through the 11th point, when the home team again went on a tear and scored eight straight points.  The opposition, after taking a time out, came out but could not recover from the Lady Maroons’ run of points.

The Lady Maroons took the second set 25-15, thus winning the match 2-0.
